Bill Ward autograph
(1919-1998) Cartoonist. Began as a paste up and layout man in the late 1930’s, eventually graduating to drawing hundreds of pages for comics like Captain Marvel and Blackhawk before entering the service to fight in World War II. He spent the 1960s, 70’s & 80’s producing a phenomenal amount of freelance work for publications as varied as Cracked (where he worked for 30 years), Playboy, Humorama, Screw and John Willie’s Bizarre. Highly prized today, his unsigned lithographs currently command prices of $350.00 and up! This item is a 1972 Original 7 ˝ x 11 Pen and Ink Drawn Cartoon for the May 1972 issue of Popular Jokes Magazine, fully hand drawn and signed “WARD” in ink with his distinctive cartoonist’s signature. Beneath it Ward has penciled in the joke; “It’s your own fault, Mr. Harris- you know how nervous I am when I’m cooking!” Beside this are several printer’s notations. An incredible original piece from one of the most important figures in the “busty women” genre of art!
